At Camp Taveuni

Student Accommodation

The heart of the students experience at The Island Classroom is the family they will be a part of in the dome. Community living subtly encourages students to open up and share stories and to develop friendships with others.

Students are grouped according to gender and age.

Teacher Accommodation

Teachers are accommodated in more traditional type of bure – complete with ensuites. Located close to the domes, they also offer privacy and separation from the students.

Around the Campfire

One of our most favourite break-out areas is the campfire. Situated overlooking the Somo Somo Strait it offers a fabulous view as the sun sets. It is a great place to debrief after the evening meal.

Dinning Area

The students and teachers share all meals and activities with all students’ teachers and staff. Students can count on others to make then smile when you’re sad or laugh with you when you’re happy.

Swimming Pool

Our pool makes a big splash of its own with the students. Deep enough to learn to diver or to hold a “bomb” competition.

Breakout Rooms

We have three covered areas that provide great spaces to work with groups simultaneously

BBQ Area

As a option for an evening meal a Fijian style BBQ is easily prepared by the staff. Chief BBQ’er is usually Allen who welcomes conversation as he turns the tongs and creates a tasty dinner.

Playing field

Volleyball is a favourite on the playing field. As a multi-purpose area, it is large enough for a variety of uses with a stunning view out over the Somo Somo Straits.

Sustainability

We take careful consideration of how we purchase food and equipment and are constantly working on reducing our waste. We have implemented a Home Biogas unit that will enable cooking with methane and production of high-grade fertiliser – all from bio-degrable waste – as our next step in sustainability.
